The 6 Greatest Video Game Heroes So Far

The 6 Greatest Video Game Heroes So Far
Mario will not be in this story. I understand that he’s one of the most known video game characters, but he’s absolutely a terrible heroic character. He’s a plumber with a mustache that stomps on turtles. How PETA has not called Nintendo out on this, I do not understand. Meet my six greatest video game heros.

6.) Conker (from Conker’s Bad Fur Day)

He’s not as innocent as he looks.

Conker’s Bad Fur Day was one of the most enjoyable games I have ever played. It was filled with such random and stupid fun that it holds some of my fondest childhood memories. The game was just ridiculous it had a grim reaper that hated cats, a giant opera singing toilet monster, being able to use your tail as a helicopter propeller, Conker would talk to the person playing the game, there was a terminator hay bale and the entire plot line was about a panther king who had a table that had a short leg and apparently the only thing with the perfect height for the table leg was a red squirrel.

There’s seriously a hay bale that’s a robot with an Austrian accent.

Why he is a hero.

Conker was faced with extremely difficult odds. He’s a squirrel that fights people with a frying pan, he’s broke, can’t find his way home and he’s being tracked down by a giant panther who wants to use him to keep his table up. Even with the world against him Conker prevailed. He was witty enough to get past any enemy that he knew he could not beat in a fight, he fought in a war, killed Alien, destroyed the hay bot and became king. They only downside to Conker’s adventure was that he could not save his girlfriend Barry.

I feel your pain little squirrel king.

5.) Link (from the Legend of Zelda games)

Gotta love that guy.

Link’s one of the most iconic characters ever created. He was in what I consider to be the best video game of all time, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Why he is a hero.

Link has been a hero since he was a kid. He has had to constantly adapt to his enemies and people have always expected him to save them since he was a kid. He fought a giant evil sorcerer, he was swallowed by a whale and he fought a dinosaur. I can not stress it enough that he has been doing the “hero” thing since he was a small adolescent child. He’s mainly a hero because he never gives up and conquers anything that stands in his way. He always saves his girl and even was chosen by the master sword.

Saving Zelda. Like a boss.

4.) Boone (from Fallout: New Vegas)

Wait, is that Jason Statham?

Boone was the best part of Fallout: New Vegas. Boone was a long range sniper with a vicious hate for the Legion who had taken his wife and made her a slave. Boone joins the main hero because the protagonist helps Boone find out who gave his wife to the Legion. He’s the coolest video game character ever created. He’s a mixture of James Bond, John Wayne, and Eminem. Boone has some of the most hardcore video game quotes as well.

Why he is a hero.

Boone hates the Legion because they are slavers who took his wife. Granted he’s killing them off just because they took his wife, but he’s still taking out the bad guys and no one else.

For now.

3.) Jorge-052 (from Halo:Reach)

That’s one big dude.

A brief description of Jorge, he’s 7’4” and ways 320 pounds. For the people that don’t know, that’s really big. Jorge was one of the few to join the Spartan II program. He and other candidates underwent a series of augmentations that made their overall combat prowess enhance well beyond normal levels.

Why he is a hero.

Jorge was an amazing Spartan. Jorge was so amazing that he gave his life for Reach and Noble team.

You brave, giant man.

During Operation:UPPERCUT, which is the coolest name for a mission ever, things went wrong and the slipspace had to be activated manually. Jorge volunteered to stay behind and save everyone. If people are not crying for that gentle giant then there’s something wrong with the world.

2.) Batman (from Batman Arkham Asylum Arkham City)

Batman’s the bomb. No matter what, he’s always awesome. Then Arkham Asylum came along and it made him just so much cooler. The newest game,Arkham City, just makes people realize how awesome Batman really is.

Pictured above: Awesome.

Why he is a hero.

For starters, Batman fights one of the most violent, crazed and diabolical villans ever.

Believe it or not I’m not talking about Gary Busey.

He has to deal with this guy:

Basically on a daily basis; Batman’s job equals "fun".

He not only fights Joker, but also one of the most dangerous and evil group of villans ever created. Batman deals with these criminals all the time, and he does it to protect Gotham. He’s an expert in just about every form of martial arts, he has some of the coolest gadgets ever and he has the most amazing car in the world.

Come at me bro.

1.) Master Chief (from Halo series)

Look up the definition of “Man” in the dictionary and you see this picture.

Master Chief  also known as John-117, has become one of the most widely known characters in video game history in such a short time.

Why he is a hero.

Master Chief’s a hero in every single way. Just look at the guy:

Hero+Man equals Master Chief.

He utterly destroyed all of the Covenant’s plans to activate the Halo super weapons, and he saved Earth, which is not even his home planet. Master Chief’s generous, dedicated, and down-right manly personality always keeps him on top of every battle. The strange thing about the Chief happens to be that he never takes off his helmet. I wonder what he’s hiding.

That explains a lot.

What about Simon from Castlevania? he’s pretty epic. He’s just a man with a whip and a handful of weapons, such as Holy Water, boomerang crosses, throwing knifes, and so on and so forth. With those few items he fights Dracula, Death himself, two mummys, Frankenstien, and any other Satanic or demonic being you can think of. All for the sake of the people of the world. Hes all alone in there too, no one to help him. No Alfred, and no team. Just his whip.
Speaking of old Nintendo, What about MegaMan? Especialy from the MegaMan X series?

This seems like “The Best Heroes from Videos Games So Far, but Actually Only the Last 5 to 10 Years.”
I will give you Link. The original Legend of Zelda was a huge success and was one of the first console games that would actually save your progress without a giant password. I also remember waiting in line at Toys R Us for the Adventures of Link to be released.
But, what about Samus from Metroid? Icarus from Kid Icarus?
I recall beating Metroid for the first time and discovering that Samus was actually female! That platform game for the original Nintendo Entertainment System changed our ideas of what a game could do! For the first time we had the ability to switch from a regualr weapon to missles. We had our first “bosses” in Ridely, Kraid and Mother Brain. The game forced us to remember in which part of a level certain items were obtained and forced us to solve puzzles and tricky parts without the benefit of the interwebs to look it up.
I could go on, but won’t. Don’t disregard the quiet heroes of a time gone by. 🙂
