Top 10 Movies For a Rainy Day

Top+10+Movies+For+a+Rainy+Day

Sometimes, we all need a break. A day to stay in, curl up with a fresh mug of tea, and watch the raindrops trickle down the window. Here are ten lovely movies to watch on a day like that.

Howl’s Moving Castle
Any Studio Ghibli movie is a solid pick for that nostalgic, comforting, whimsical feel, but a personal favorite is Howl’s Moving Castle. The animated movie follows a young woman named Sophie as she delves headfirst into the world of witches, wizards, romance and war.

The Breakfast Club
A cult classic, The Breakfast Club is the perfect rainy day movie. An 80’s time capsule with a cast of meticulously crafted characters, this movie tells the story of five wildly different people coming together in unexpected ways.

Alice in Wonderland (1951)
Disney’s animated dip into absurdism, Alice in Wonderland (1951), is a delightful watch for anyone who’s seen it. Following the young and curious Alice, the movie takes the audience on a childish, surreal journey through the magical Wonderland.

Turning Red
Turning Red is still a fairly new movie debuting in March of 2022, but it’s already staked its claim as a classic for a new generation. This adorable film serves as a love letter to adolescence, the 90’s, being Asian-American and finding your place in the world.

Coraline
Undoubtedly one of the most beloved animated movies of all time, Coraline is the love child of renowned author, Niel Gaiman, and award-winning animation studio, Laika. In Coraline, a headstrong, young girl tumbles into a world of her dreams with everything she could ever want. She’ll soon come to learn that good things tend to come at a price.

Moonrise Kingdom
Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom is eccentric and adorable, telling the tale of young love between a sheltered girl and an adventurous boy scout. A perfect culmination of Anderson’s style, this movie is always a good choice.

Kubo and the Two Strings
Another masterpiece by Laika Studios, Kubo and the Two Strings is a beautifully crafted story about a young warrior with strong elements of Japanese folklore and art.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
A classic comedy, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is another 80’s movie that’s always a classic for family movie night. It follows a teen boy ditching school and the hijinks that ensue as the day progresses.

Summer Wars
For any fans of anime or video games, Summer Wars is a fast paced, fun-filled and eclectic film about a boy saving both the virtual and real world from a devastating hacker. It represents Japanese culture, creativity and the desire we all have to do good.

Legally Blonde
Legally Blonde is a cult classic 90’s comedy often disregarded as a typical ‘chick flick’, but in reality, the film has many themes of independence, femininity, and how to be your own person. Typical “dumb blonde” Elle Woods chases the man she loves into an Ivy League school, but soon discovers to value her own passions first.
