Nichole Fort

Practicing her routine every day. Getting her kicks to the highest level. Performing to a Bon Jovi mix. Applauding kids to keep going.

Drill team will volunteer at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International (JDRF) 5K walk for their community service project on Oct. 24.

“I’ve lived with diabetes for 14 years, and I finally have a group to go with me to help others know life goes on,” senior Drill Team captain Nichole Fort said.

While parents walk to benefit diabetes, the Drill Team will supervise the bounce house and face painting area. Fort plans to talk to kids about diabetes.

“I want to encourage them that they can do anything and diabetes will not limit them,” Fort said.

Drill Team does a community service project every six weeks.

“Since our captain has diabetes the kids want to see her perform,” Drill Team teacher Mrs. Parlin said.

They will present a kick line routine after the walk. Fort has walked every year since she was five. But since she’s watching children and dancing, her mom, dad, and sister are walking for her.

“I’m excited that we’re doing this. This is an amazing opportunity and we get to inspire kids who have diabetes,” Mrs. Parlin said.
