Tips for Staying Safe on Halloween

October 30, 2014

Halloween, a holiday for tricking or treating and partying it up, can have some dangers for any who plan on celebrating. The following tips will help everyone stay safe on this thrilling night of terror.

Buddy System
Everyone knows that two peas make a pod. Taking a friend or family member along while going trick-or-treating or going to a party will help secure your safety.

Flashlight
If you plan on trick-or-treating this Halloween, make sure to bring a flashlight because it can get pretty dark at night. Also, it can help find anything that might have fallen out of a bag, such as candy.

Crossing the Street
People have always said that looking both ways before crossing the street can save lives, but it seems like on Halloween, the rule goes out the window. This rule can be very important because you put your life in harm’s way by neglecting it.

Cell Phones
Make sure to bring a cell phone along to keep in contact with parents. If you don’t have a cell phone, make sure your friend has one, in case of emergency.

Drinking and Driving
Driving under the influence of alcohol will never be a good idea, and Halloween shouldn’t be an excuse to put yourself and the little trick-or-treaters who roam around the neighborhood in danger.

Candy Gone Wrong
You need to be extremely careful before you eat the Halloween candy you get. You should always triple-check to see whether it has an opening anywhere on the wrapper. Take for example eight-year-old Timothy O’Bryan, who died back in 1974 when his father, Ronald Clark O’Bryan, laced his Pixy Stix with cyanide.

Costumes and Mask
When going to buy a costume, make sure to buy the right size to avoid a trip or fall. Also, masks should be safe enough for you to see the things around you. You could always opt for face paint instead of a mask to ensure your safety.
