Sitting down to watch Obsessed after its long break, I suddenly get excited. It finally starts with the title screen. The O in Obsessed is being engraved into the paper, symbolizing Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
It may seem kind of creepy at first, but it’s actually sad. It’s a reality show in which the participants go through challenges to recover from their Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
They can obsess about anything from death to pulling out their own hair. This brings attention to OCD in a calmer manner than the usual thought of the disorder which is typically to make fun of it.
Obsessed also makes the watcher realize a lot of people have OCD and it’s not a terrible thing. The show participants know they have a problem and truly want to correct it. That’s why they undergo these challenges. Depending on their obsession, the way to help them alter their habit varies. For instance, if they are afraid to drive on the highway, the psychiatrist will take them though a series of tests. The most challenging test would be driving on the highway in high traffic.
When I’m watching the show I begin feeling bad for these people with OCD. They go through many struggles just to wake up in the morning. It’s a show that’s entertaining with a learning experience.
