On January 23, the men’s varsity soccer team defeated Flower Mound Marcus High School in the Martin Invitational tournament championship. Prior to being defeated by Legacy, Marcus was the number one high school team in the nation according to ESPN.
Does this mean we deserve to be rated number one in the nation? Not necessarily. After all, we lost to Mansfield earlier this year. Does that mean they’re better than us? No, it doesn’t. You can say that anyone can lose to anyone on any given day.
However, that doesn’t mean Legacy didn’t fight for this win. Legacy scored first and the game eventually went in to overtime, ending with Legacy winning in a shootout. The game was obviously hard fought and to say that our team didn’t earn it is absurd. Legacy doesn’t necessarily have to be ranked number one in the nation, but they should be ranked pretty close if you ask me. They’ve proved last year wasn’t a fluke and are posting a repeat.
Expect them to get higher in the ranks pretty soon, possibly in the top ten within the next few weeks.
