Nadley Reviews 9

I am a big Lord of the Rings enthusiast, which is why I am very excited about the movie 9. During the film I noticed strange allusions between the two.

The Seamstress- Shelob

The Seamstress was the worm looking thing that wraps up the victims then sucks their souls away. As Frodo enters the caves of Cirith Ungol in Mordor, he is met with the huge spider, Shelob. She captures Frodo and wraps him in her web, somewhat like The Seamtress’ thread.

The Talisman Box- The Tree of Gondor

As 9 scramble through his creator’s office he comes across a wooden box. It just so happens that the symbol etched into the box is almost a perfect interpretation of the Tree of Gondor. I almost gasped in the movie theater when I first saw it.

Winged Beast- the Witch King’s winged beast

As the stitchpunks (the rag dolls) are at rest, they see the Winged Beast approaching their fortress. As it gets closer to the hide out I start getting flashbacks of the evil Witch King flying around Mordor on his winged beast with enormous wings.

The Machine- Saruman

The demented Saruman, who has a thirst for power, is continually extracting Orcs from the ground. He trains them to be evil and kill, kill, kill! The Machine was created to incessantly create other machines. But the flaw in its mechanics is that it only produces evil machines. Strangely, they also kill, kill, kill.

The green spirits of 1, 2, 5, 6, and 8- The blue spirits of Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Luke’s father

The movie is coming to an end. And the returned spirits of the fallen, which are green ghosts, come back and say goodbye. As Luke is celebrating his victory he sees his heroes, Obi-Wan, Yoda, and his father. Oh wait, that’s Star Wars, nevermind.

As the deceased drift away into the rain, the credits start rolling. The movie left me with the impression that the director enjoyed Lord of the Rings enough so that he cast Elijah Wood as the lead roll. I was distracted so much by the Lord of the Rings hints that I forgot to actually analyze the movie.
