“The Fighter,” directed by David O. Russell and starring Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale and Amy Adams demonstrates cinematic excellence. The movie looks at the early years of boxer “Irish” Micky Ward and his brother who helped train him before going pro in the mid 1980s. In the movie Wahlberg plays Mickey Ward; an extremely talented boxer whose family prevents him from reaching his full potential. When Ward meets the girl of his dreams, things start to change. She shows him that his family uses him for the money and they should treat him better. Upon realizing this he finds new management, a new trainer, and a new found confidence. After his brother gets arrested, Ward goes on a winning streak getting extreme recognition. Then, Ward recieved a title shot the same day his brother gets released from prison. Ward finally realizes that he truly needs his brother so they intensify his training and prepare Ward for his title match. I won’t spoil the ending so go see the movie to find out.
Favorite moment-
The funniest part of the movie for me was seeing all seven of Ward’s sisters getting out of an extremely tiny car, and trying to find him in his girlfriend’s house. When Ward, and Charlene finally confront all the female members of Ward’s family his sisters start insulting Charlene to the point where Charlene attacks, and takes down around four of his sisters by herself.
Favorite acting performance-
Christian Bale completely steals the spotlight in this movie. Bale perfectly depicts Dicky Eklund. From the washed up, self centered, crack addicted boxer that he was to the caring, helpful brother he became. Bale blew my mind with how well he did portraying his character.
This movie, like Ward’s boxing career, was a knock out.
