The Hunger Games, a movie set for released on Mar. 23, 2012, has become a popular trend for teens to talking about. Based off a book trilogy, The Hunger Games follows the life of Katniss Everdeen and her changing from working for the government, to playing their games to create a show. However, these aren’t just any ordinary set of games, but ones where there will only be one single survivor. The titles to the novels in the trilogy are The Hunger Games, Catching Fire and Mockingjay. In the first one, The Hunger Games, the reader meets Katniss in Panem, hunting to help feed her very poor family.
Later, there is a drawing of names to be in the next annual Hunger Games, a tournament to see who will survive when put in a ring with twelve boys and twelve girls from other districts much like their own; poor and unstable areas that work for the government.
When Katniss’ little sisters name is called, Katniss becomes frantic and offers herself as a tribute volunteer. Katniss is put against Peeta Mellark to represent their district in the Hunger Games. The movie coming out is based off the first novel. Katniss Everdeen is played by Jennifer Lawrence, also known for being Raven in the X-Men: First Class.
Josh Hutcherson, who’s also from The Bridge to Terabithea, plays Peeta Mellark and Katniss’ best friend and hunting buddy, Gale Hawthorne, is played by Liam Hensworth. Director Gary Moss says the movie is based off of and completely follows the book. Some believe the movie will be quite different and spoil the novels like every other book-to-movie scenario there is, while others think it’ll be as successful as Harry Potter.
Obviously, Katniss lives, it is a series revolving around her, but will there be another survivor? Judging from the hustle and bustle about it, some have speculated twists in the ending to the first book. My own hunch is that Peeta will survive along with Katniss because their must be a love twist in almost every novel for teenage girls to be able to be interested in it.
Save the date and see the movie that’s being spoken amongst friends, or you can do what many others are doing, and read the trilogy that sparked such a movie.
