5 Awesome Talents

5 Awesome Talents

5. Multi-Instrumentalist
Musicians can play all sorts of instruments, from string instruments, such as violin, cello and bass, to percussion, such as the snare drum and tambourine. True musicians are not confined to just one of these instruments either; they can usually play three or four of them well. Together or alone these musicians show their skills through their music and inspire their audiences to continue listening even more.

Playing the french horn, oboe and piano, senior Jessica Darmon marks the spot as a multi-instrumentalist.

“When it comes to music, I love figuring out how each instrument makes its own sound and figuring out how well that sound fits with me as a musician,” Darmon said.

4. Stand-Up Comedy
Making humorous jokes in front of large audiences has its difficulties. Sometimes, the audience might view what you are saying differently or  just not get the punchline. Getting up on the stage and finding ways to entertain a crowd might not seem like much of a talent, but finding the right niche for your crowd takes experience and practice. Stand-up comedy takes this a step further by putting the comedian out on the stage without a routine to make spontaneous jokes.

Sophomore Hannah Middleton, a member of Mission IMPROV-able, has had her own experiences as a stand-up comedian.

“I like making people laugh,” Middleton said. “ I love performing self-expressively.”

3. Parkour
Leaping off of a building, flipping through the air and landing successfully on the ground are quite the impressive feats to watch someone complete. Parkour is a fun talent requiring a lot of work. Parkour might have its dangerous side, but it also has its perks. The ability to sprint up the side of a wall and perform a backflip takes a lot of skill and even more practice.

Although junior Spencer Whitney doesn’t work on parkour as a hobby, he tries to keep limber and fit. He has his own opinion on parkour.

“I think it’s pretty cool and I would love to be able to do that kind of stuff,” Whitney said. “I think it’s very daring and takes a lot of skill.”

2. Beatboxing
A talent that makes many just stare in awe, beatboxing takes serious skill. This unique talent has brought many people fame and incorporates multiple musical genres. The style produced by the blend of numerous, weird sounds, which make no sense by themselves, come together into their own innovative kind of songs. These unique creations move beatboxing ever closer to the top awesome talent.

1. Magic
Magicians’ illusions and clever tricks are some of the most interesting things to see. Their magic tricks vary in all forms and sizes, from pulling a rabbit or dove out of their hat to vanishing into thin air. These wonders may seem easy at first glance, but only the most skilled can make magic their career. Since The Great Houdini, magicians have and will continue to create grander illusions, inspire even larger crowds and leave an even greater enjoyment in their audiences, including me, as my all-time-favorite awesome talent.

An amateur in the art of illusion, junior Faron Jennings improves upon old tricks and creates new ones when he has time, always striving to get new reactions from his audiences.

“People are surprised and react differently to magic,” Jennings said. “It’s interesting to see how they react.”
