So you’ve seen posts of those incredible Tumblr-famous rooms on your Instagram feed, We Heart It, and of course blogged on Tumblr, and now you want your bedroom to resemble them. It may seem like a big, complicated ordeal to start creating a Tumblr room, but taking on one project at a time makes it a cinch. Above all, unique qualities define Tumblr rooms. You don’t want your room to serve as a carbon copy of someone else’s space already posted on the site, so just be original and keep a creative mindset during the entire designing process.
What you need:
1.) Magazines. Cutting out letters from full size magazine pages creates one-of-a-kind wall art that effectively covers a large space on your once dull and empty walls in a clever way. Try to stay away from pages filled with black-and-white words because the colorful pages usually end up making a better overall look, but it just depends on your individual taste. You could spell out lyrics to your favorite songs or simply use any quote you like to get the inspiration flowing to design the rest of your room.
2.) String lights. All Tumblr famous rooms have strands of lights somewhere. They can illuminate the quote created from magazine pages, placed over your bed or even sporadically around your room to add a unique element helping you on your way to achieving a Tumblr-famous space.
3.) Photos. Personal pictures and ones taken from magazines are a necessity in Tumblr rooms. They can cover every inch of the walls in the room depending on how far you want to go (or how far your parents will allow). To start, try piecing single photos together to make a collage to cover a large space which once lacked the originality crucial to creating your Tumblr room.
4.) Posters. Add posters of your favorite bands, movies, music artists or anything else you adore to cover your walls. Having unique elements throughout your space marks one of the most important qualities to Tumblr rooms. By making your own original posters or art pieces to put around your room, your space moves closer to the Tumblr-famous level.
5.) Paint swatches. It may seem strange, but many of the famous Tumblr bloggers started writing quotes (or really any random words) on paint swatches to use as decorations in their rooms. You can do so many different things with multi-colored paint swatches, and they don’t even cost any money. So get creative and, most importantly, have fun with it.
6.) Originality. It defines a Tumblr room and always should be remembered throughout the process of designing your space. Individuality trumps the multitude of other necessary qualities to creating successful Tumblr rooms. Even if your room doesn’t reach the honor of being dubbed Tumblr-famous, you designed something to be proud of, so don’t feel discouraged.
