Spring Break allows us to take time off from our stressful schoolwork and grants us the opportunity to enjoy the pleasant weather before we return to school stuck in a classroom until summer comes. With only five weekdays off, we must use them in a way we will enjoy, or else it will become a waste of a break.
Whether interested in staying a day or a few days in the outdoors, Joe Pool Lake provides a calm and fun experience for you, your friends and your family. Lloyd Park, Cedar Hill State Park and Llyn Park all provide access to the lake. While the cold weather may not provide the most pleasant swimming experience, the lake continues to offer fishing, kayaking and canoeing. The parks also contain overnight campgrounds allowing a variety of camping options whether in a tent, a cabin or an RV.
The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History
By providing an educational and appropriate experience for all ages, the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History makes for an ideal place to allocate your time during the break. The museum now offers access to its permanent exhibits along with a temporary exhibit, “Titanic: Artifact Exhibition.” The exhibit features artifacts from the ship along with a recreation of rooms from its interior. Located within the metroplex, the museum has a reasonable travel time for the fascinating experience.
Spring Cleaning
Use up a day or two in a productive way by taking the time to clean and organize your house. No matter how unpleasant it may seem, spring cleaning makes the time spent very worth it. Organizing everything you own will help keep you more relaxed and productive without worrying about finding what you need through all the accumulated clutter.
For any roller coaster enthusiast, Six Flags Over Texas provides a thrilling way to enrich the day. The park offers over 40 roller coasters, some made specifically for children. Providing food and entertainment throughout the park, Six Flags Over Texas becomes an excellent inexpensive way to have fun with your friends or family.
Go to the movies
When looking for a cheap inexpensive activity for the afternoon, consider going to see a movie. Go with some friends to see one of the new movies coming out during the break. Disney’s version of “The Wizard of Oz” called “Oz, The Great and Powerful,” comes to theatres on March 8th and has already received great reviews.
College Visits
As the year begins to close, upperclassmen must consider where they plan to attend college after they graduate. Before applying to different colleges, they should first see what colleges have the best campuses, classes and clubs. Whether planning to stay in state or leave state, a trip to the college develops into an experience in itself, especially with friends.
Thrift Shopping
A typical shopping spree can rack up to hundreds of dollars for over-priced, non-unique brand clothing. For something more economic, a thrift-store shopping spree can prove itself a much more valuable use of your time. Thrift shops typically consist of donated goods for sale at cheap prices. When visiting a thrift shop, you’ll have a variety of furniture, clothes and trinkets available for yourself or for a friend.
GeoCaching participants use a Global Positioning System receiver, mobile devices or other devices in order to find small waterproof boxes called “caches.” These caches hold small trinkets, a log book and a pencil. Locations of caches are found online or on smartphone applications. When a Geocacher locates the cache, they take an item from it and replace it with an item of similar or higher value. GeoCaching is found almost anywhere in the world with absolutely no fee.
