Most of us 1990s babies grew up watching “All That”, “Kenan and Kel”, “Cat Dog”, “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” and many more. A lot of people that grew up in the nineties wondered where all their childhood shows went and a lot of chaos went on about the shows not airing anymore. People wrote Nickelodeon notes and emailed them and Nickelodeon responded by bringing back all of the 90s shows late at night.
1. “All That” (1994-2005)
Staying up late to watch “All That” on Saturday nights was the highlight of my week. The format was similar to “Saturday Night Live” or “MadTV.” “All That” was the single coolest TV kids show of the nineties. Each show always featured a musical guest like TLC.
2. “Rugrats” (1991-2004)
Rugrats showed the misadventures and imaginations of a group of toddlers. Tommy Pickles was the brave leader of their baby gang, which included Chuckie and the dirt-loving twins: Phil and Lil. The antagonist was always Angelica Pickles, the older cousin. The show ran on Nickelodeon, one of the most-loved networks, for nine seasons and is one of the most remembered shows to this day. The show even got its own full-length feature film in 1998, as well as two less successful sequels.
3. “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” (1991-2000)
“Are You Afraid of the Dark?” had the tendency to scare the pants off its young viewers every week. It aired on SNICK on Saturday nights. “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” provided ghost stories and supernatural tales and always left viewers significantly creeped out.
4. “Legends of the Hidden Temple” (1993-1995)
Nickelodeon was well known for having creative game shows such as “Guts!” and “Figure it Out!” In the shows, there were six pairs, and all viewers could pick their favorite team. The show included physical challenges combined with historical and geographic knowledge, with a very Indiana Jones feel to it.
5. “Doug” (1991-1994)
“Doug” was one of the first animated series on Nickelodeon, premiering back in 1991 around the time the Rugrats was introduced. Something was special about the show, which focused around pre-teen Doug Funnie and his various friends and family members, including sister Judith, best friend Skeeter Valentine, nemesis Roger Klotz, long-time crush Patti Mayonnaise and pet dog Porkchop. The show mainly focused on the pre-teen boy and his friends.
6. “Clarissa Explains It all” (1991-1994)
The show focused mainly on a young teenage girl’s life. Clarissa (played by a young Melissa Joan Hart) was the epitome of nineties cool. She wore Doc Martens and listened to Violent Femmes. She had a pet lizard named Elvis. For young girls you couldn’t get much cooler than Clarissa Darling. Her unique style, sass and wit made her a nineties icon.
7. “Salute your Shorts” (1991-1992)
Who didn’t want to attend camp Anawanna? This show tapped into every child’s desire to go to sleep-away camp. The fun campfires and adventures the children took on the show made young viewers want to go to camp. It also had a crazy cast of campers, including “Donkeylips” and “Budnick.” Unfortunately, “Salute your Shorts” only ran two short series.
