Legacy Raves: Haunted Houses

Legacy Raves: Haunted Houses

The Halloween season has arrived and, consequently, so has the time for teenagers to go out and spend their money on things that will most likely make them wish they had brought an extra pair of underwear. Teenagers enjoy being frightened until they’re on the verge of tears, whether it’s from a new horror movie or a haunted house. Places like Cutting Edge, Zombie Manor and Terrorplex stand among the most popular haunted houses around Mansfield.

“It was scary,” sophomore Cloe Lespagnol said about Cutting Edge. “Lots of things popped out and it was very unexpected.”

Cutting Edge holds a Guinness World Record for “World’s Largest Walk-Through Haunted House.” Voted one of the best haunted houses in America by HauntedHouseRatings.com, it features a 55 minute stroll through a dimly-lit building full of unpredictable and startling surprises, ending with a room of bubbles, if a participant makes it that far.

“I liked how it was so long because I felt like I got my money’s worth,” Lespagnol said. “The bubble room was kind of scary though, because I felt like I was going to suffocate.”

While Cutting Edge suits the more experienced haunted house guest, Zombie Manor suits people who are less familiar with haunted houses.

“[Zombie Manor] was a great haunted house for my first time,” sophomore Angela Austin said. “It was scary and set up really well.”

Like most haunted houses, the time before entering Zombie Manor consists of workers deliberately making an effort to scare their guests, which didn’t aid in the fact that Angela was nervous while waiting to go inside.

“Waiting in line made me really anxious because I kept hearing people scream,” Austin said.

Last but not least is Terrorplex; an area containing four haunted houses and additional frightening amusements. Freshman Danielle Thomas recently visited it.

“When I was waiting to go inside I was nervous because I didn’t know what was inside the building and what to expect,” Danielle said.

Although Terrorplex reigns as a quality haunted house, a person with coulrophobia, the fear of clowns, should refrain from attending.

“The scariest part for me was the clown room because I don’t like clowns,” Thomas said. “One kept following me.”

Regardless of the not-so-funny clown incident, Thomas admitted she did enjoy Terrorplex.

“I would go again,” Thomas said. “It was a good place to go with lots of friends.”

So, whether it be with a large group of buddies or an intimately scary night with a best friend, teenagers all around will be getting a thrill out of haunted houses.

“I love the thrill,” Cloe Lespagnol said. “I hope to go to more.”
