Tucked amongst the colorful street art and historical buildings of downtown Mansfield lies its newest addition, Mellow Mushroom, a pizza bistro. Mellow Mushroom specializes in a variety of pizzas ranging from the “Gourmet White” to the “Maui Wowie.” This restaurant serves some of the strangest, but tastiest, pizzas out there.
The Mellow Mushroom opened on August 25, 2014. Just like any new restaurant, they have a few kinks to work out. With few employees, the wait was 30 minutes long. It also had very limited customer parking. If going to the Mellow Mushroom, expect a wait for everything. Including parking spots.
Although the food tastes great, it was costly. Two small pizzas, one “Funky Q” and a “Red Potato Pie,” an order of “Muffuletta Cheese Bread” and two sweet teas costs around $40, however, as the saying goes, “you get what you pay for.” The food was amazing, but expensive.
The atmosphere of the Mellow Mushroom was great, with friendly servers who asked if they could assist us every few minutes or so. Not only was there a friendly atmosphere, the seating was also very pleasant. The Mellow Mushroom has a sizeable outdoor patio with great seating and live outdoor music, while the inside has a large selection of booths and separate rooms with tables.
Compared to other restaurants, the Mellow Mushroom resembles a fancier form of an Italian Pizzeria serving amazing and sometimes weird foods with objectionable prices. Expect a helpful and friendly staff. Everything in the Mellow Mushroom requires a wait, so if you plan to go to Mellow Mushroom, make sure you have time to spare or get there before dinner or lunch times to find a parking spot and a table.
But one could argue that great things come to those who wait.
