Every year we hear Chris Harrison say “this is the most dramatic finale in bachelor history,” but this year it really was. I have said this before and I will say it again, Arie should have never been The Bachelor. Why do you say that? Watch the finale and you’ll know why.
SPOILERS FOR THE BACHELOR FINALE BELOW
PART ONE
It was rough. And heartbreaking.
The two girls remaining were Becca and Lauren. I was rooting for Becca, she contained confidence and seemed genuine. Lauren seemed sweet, but boring. Arie and her would say the same thing to each other every time they spoke: “I’m so lucky.” “We’re so lucky.” “I’m so excited.” “I’m so in love with you.” It was incredibly annoying. I felt like Becca and Arie had a stronger connection, even though she could do so much better than him.
I had a feeling Arie may not pick Becca because she’s strong and independent. Different from Lauren. Lauren is codependent and needs constant reassurance. Something tells me, he likes when girls just throw themselves at him and don’t challenge him mentally in a relationship.
The girls met Arie’s family, who were so kind that you’d think they would’ve raised more of a gentleman. The families liked both girls, maybe liking Lauren more, but they all agreed Becca was a better fit for Arie.
After meeting the families and having their final dates, Arie had a decision to make. Who was he going to get on one knee for. Well, if you’ve watched The Bachelor before, you know the first person Arie talks to isn’t getting the ring. That person was Lauren. After she declared her love for him, he rejected her.
So it was Becca. Or at least we thought it was. Arie did propose to Becca, he got down on one knee and gave her the extremely shiny ring.
Weeks later Arie apparently changed his mind and spent his engagement with Becca thinking about Lauren. Becca had no idea he felt this way. Arie and the producers of this show decided to film Arie completely unedited, blindsiding Becca and calling off the engagement. This show has pulled a lot of stunts, but this has got to be the lowest of the low. It was heartbreaking to watch Arie rip Becca’s heart out. It felt raw unlike the rest of the show. She cried, he faked some tears. I don’t think I heard him say sorry once.
Becca didn’t deserve that, but Arie didn’t deserve her.
PART TWO
I thought it was over. Arie had broken up with Becca, but on night two of the finale, Arie talked to Becca again and unfortunately, proposed to Lauren.
It was revealed that Arie had called Lauren before he met with her to say Becca and him broke up. He wanted to see if she would actually take him back, which she did.
Other girls on the season spoke out on Becca’s behalf, calling Arie out. Bekah K. was especially vocal about her opinions on Arie and his actions. It was relieving to see people call Arie out and say what he did was wrong.
Bottom line Arie should’ve never proposed to Becca. And he shouldn’t have let the producers film him completely blindsiding her.
Arie talked to Becca on the live show, he apologized for his actions and said he deeply regretted how the situation was handled. I didn’t believe him for one second. Arie is not a genuine person and only cares about himself. He didn’t deserve Becca and he doesn’t even deserve Lauren.
The best news of the night, Becca is the bachelorette. This sounds cliche, but no one deserves it more than she does. She has handled everything so gracefully. As crazy as going on a TV show to find a husband is, I wish nothing but the best for Becca. Overall this season of The Bachelor was a garbage fire, but I’m looking forward to The Bachelorette.
The Bachelorette will premiere May 28th on ABC.
