Halloween is a favorite holiday for many adults and children. Some like to trick-or-treat, others like to stay in and watch their favorite Halloween movies. Here are some of the classics.

Hocus Pocus
“Hocus Pocus”, released in 1993, has been the most viewed Halloween movie across platforms such as Vudu and Disney+ for years in a row. “Hocus Pocus” is a family movie about a brother and sister who have to team up with a talking cat to steal a spellbook from three immortal witches who kill children to make themselves younger.

The Nightmare Before Christmas
Another popular Halloween movie, “The Nightmare Before Christmas” first aired in theatres in 1993. Halloweentown’s king, Jack Skellington, encounters many problems when he tries to take control of Christmas. The storyline comes from Tim Burton, a film director most famously known for creating many other Halloween movies such as Corpse Bride, Beetlejuice, and Edward Scissorhands.

A Nightmare on Elm Street
“A Nightmare on Elm Street” came out in 1984 and gave us one of our most well-known movie villains, Freddy Krueger. The burned man attacks teenagers in their dreams, killing them in real life. The slasher is Johnny Depp’s debut film. Heather Langenkamp’s and Johnny Depp’s characters try to uncover Freddy Krueger’s past.

Friday the 13th
“Friday the 13th” is a well-known horror movie set at a summer camp in a forest. Similar to Freddy Krueger in “A Nightmare on Elm Street”, teenagers are stalked and slaughtered by the masked Jason Voorhees. “Friday the 13th”, the original movie, was released in 1980 but ended up being remade in 2009 and since then sequels and spin-offs were created.

Ghostbusters
“Ghostbusters” can be a classic enjoyed all year round, but the comedy is especially good to watch on Halloween. Three scientists start a business catching paranormal beings in their city and find a gateway to another dimension. The movie that came out in 1984 stars Bill Murray, Dan Akyroyd and Harold Ramis. The spin-off film, “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” will hit theaters in November.

It
Based on Stephen King’s novel from 1986, “It” only came out in 2017 and already became one of the most popular horror movies to watch on Halloween. Seven “outcast” children are targeted by Pennywise from in the sewers. Pennywise and his iconic red balloon returned in “It Chapter Two”, released in 2019. Unbeknownst to many people, the book was first adapted as a two-part movie series back in 1990.
