“Outer Banks” premiered on Netflix in 2020 and quickly rose in popularity. With the need to stay home because of COVID, it’s easy for younger viewers to get lost in the weekly adventures and relationship drama that the show did a great job of portraying. The next two seasons did not disappoint and provided more high-intensity action.
“Outer Banks” season four skyrocketed with the first of five episodes – part one – aired Oct. 17 and part two, the remaining five episodes, beginning Nov. 7. It’s already number one on Netflix’s USA Top 10 Shows of the Year list. The show is popular with teens and young adults. The relationships among the characters as well as their constant need for adventure leaves viewers on the edge of their seats and wanting more.
The first five episodes of season four packed in plot twists and evolving relationship dynamics. The writers can keep multiple storylines moving along which keeps viewers’ attention and eagerly wanting more. The characters have different social and economic backgrounds, but the show creators blend it all together creating intriguing storylines that hook the viewers. The main characters of the show are a friend group of Pogues, but some of them used to be Kooks. The Pogues are the poor, less fortunate people, and the Kooks are the rich, more fortunate people. The main character, John B, is the one who started the treasure-hunting because he wanted to be like his dad. His dad hunted for something but never found it, so John B and his friends who tagged along with him have been treasure hunting ever since.
Each episode was full of unexpected twists and turns. Many times the audience was left thinking how the characters were going to get out of the mess they found themselves in. At the end of the fifth episode, everyone was left with a cliffhanger. There have already been multiple theories about what’s going to happen next. The anticipation of what’s to come creates so much social media attention. There have also been a lot of people spoiling it online and people who haven’t watched yet are upset.
No need to wait for weekly episodes to drop; viewers began to binge-watch the second half of season four when it dropped on Nov. 7.
The second half of the season episodes six through ten really tied all of the season together. There were a lot more intense moments and a lot of unexpected twists in the episodes leading up to the final one. The group faced many challenges and traveled a lot in the last couple of episodes just to find what they were looking for. Another group of people were also on the hunt for the same thing that they were and they kept running into each other. This was the group’s biggest challenge because the people wanted to kill them to get to the blue crown which is what they were looking for this season.
The season finale episode had a jaw dropping ending that no one was expecting. It turned a lot of heads and even more social media attention was brought to the show. One of the main characters in the group, JJ, left the show which shocked mostly everyone who watches the show. I was very sad about the ending because it definitely didn’t go the way I wanted. I cried when I saw what happened and from what I’ve seen a lot of other people did too. Now they are confirmed for a fifth season and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
