Toronto born rapper Aubrey Graham, also known as Drake, came together with Jahron Brathwaite, also known as PARTYNEXTDOOR, to create the album “$ome $exy $ongs 4 U.”
“$ome $exy $ongs 4 U” is a 21 song album by Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR. The album came out on Feb. 14. There were high expectations regarding this album because nobody had heard any music from Drake since his dispute with Kendrick Lamar. There was lots of pressure on his shoulders, and he did not fail. This album is a 74-minute masterclass.
The album’s first song, “CN Tower,” set the tone early for the rest of the songs. It creates the slow feelings when talking about the color of the CN Tower in Toronto. This mood created by this song is why this is my favorite song in the album.
Skipping down to “Crying In Chanel,” this is one of the songs I was disappointed in. Drake released a snippet of this song a week before the album came out, but the whole song was not as good as the snippet.
“Gimme a Hug” is one of the biggest hits so far off this album. Many speculate that Drake was taking shots at various artists, specifically Kendrick Lamar. The beat switch in this song is peak hip-hop. He goes from a calmer feeling to an upbeat paste in the matter of seconds. This song is one of my favorites but probably the best overall song.
Moving on to “Nokia,” a very upbeat and fun sounding song. The tone in this song is different from the tone in other songs. This song has blown up on social media apps like TikTok and Instagram for the different feeling you get when listening to it.
Lastly, the album ends with “Greedy.” Throughout Drake’s career, he has received much praise for the outros to his songs. “Fancy” off of “Thank Me Later” is one of his biggest hits because of the outro. The outro in Greedy is very similar. He slows the song down and leaves the listeners with a good thought. That is exactly what he did with this album.
All in all, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U is an 8/10 album. This is because of the multiple hits and different kinds of feeling I got when listening. It could’ve been better, but I still think it was a great album.
