One fat guinea pig, one fluffy bunny, two misbehaved dogs, two red eared slider turtles, three tan hamsters, and three ball pythons: sophomore Shanera Comstock’s pets.
“When I grow up I want to own a pet store, so I can be around all kinds of animals all day long,” Shanera said.
She sleeps with her snakes every night and they’re her favorite. Octavious who is two and five feet long, Amour and Taz who are one, have never bit anyone.
“It all depends on how you treat them, if you’re sweet to them they’ll be sweet back,” Shanera said.
That’s her philosophy with all her pets. She spends equal time with all of them.
“I have enough time in the day to take care of them,” Shanera said.
Sophomore Ruben Oviedo owns one fat Siamese cat and one beta from last year’s eco-system project in Biology.
“My lazy cat is three years old, 21 in kitty years, his name is Simon,” Oviedo said.
Simon is also energetic, when Oviedo throws bouncy balls he chases and tackles after them.
“He is the toughest kitty around,” Oviedo said. “He gets all the female cats pregnant around the neighborhood.”
His cat is the boss of the house. Simon does what he wants, when he wants. He doesn’t take anything from anyone.
“I taught my cat well. He’s a gangster,” Oviedo said.“My friend didn’t want to take it home, so I decided to keep it,” Oviedo said.
He bought Destiny a bowl, but it broke, so he bought her a big fish tank. When he was cleaning the tank she feel down the sink.
“She fell down the garbage disposal without water for at least five minutes. I saved her life by grabbing her with my bare hands,” Oviedo said.
