As the tardy bell rings, everyone saunters into class with bags of cookies and heads straight to their computers, pulling up the unfinished yearbook pages that were due on the same day. Adviser Leland Mallett quickly comes out of the of his office making sure to greet the people coming in.

“Check your e-mail team,” Mr. Mallett says, clapping his hand together trying to receive everyone’s attention.

On the overhead screen is an overwhelming list of page numbers, page description, staffer, writer and deadline. Each of the pages are highlighted in the colors green, yellow, orange and red, representing which pages need to done first.

“Red,” Mr. Mallett said pointing to the screen. “I’m worried about the red and orange.”

Editor-in-Chief senior Maleena Navarro rushes out of the editor office and sits down in front of the teacher’s computer while Mr. Mallett plops down in the big blue chair. The atmosphere in the room has a sense in urgency yet everyone was calm like this was normal for the yearbook staffers.

“Okay guys,” Navarro said. “I’m expecting see all of the pages done today.”

“Hurry over here to the middle guys,” Mr. Mallett said. “It won’t take long.”

Mallett turns off the lights. “We are still having problems with captions,” Mr. Mallett said. He shows the students how to change and which font to use on InDesign, while Navarro controls the computer with Editor-in-Chief senior Chases Callaway standing by her side.

“Okay, nobody talk to me today,” junior Whitney Threatt said. “I need to finish my page.”

Threatt immediately opens her page and prints it out. While Threatt ask senior Amanda Granato a question about her page, Navarro and Callaway walk around the room seeing if anyone is in need of help.

Junior Austin Torres calls junior Devin Gray over to his computer. He has his clubs mini page pulled up and is zoom in the debate caption.

“I feel like the words are pretty small compared to everything else,” Torres said.

Gray stands behind him scanning the page.

“It looks fine but you do need to fix this.”

The yearbook staff finished the book on March 8. Books will be distributed in late May. Extra copies can be ordered at www.smart-pay.com.
