The athletes sprint and the clock ticks. 25 Legacy Track athletes advanced to UIL 6A Area. The event occurred on April 10, at Justin Northwest HS. All of Legacy’s teams placed second in district.
“I believe it is ideal to put people in positions to advance to regionals,” Head Track Coach Detrion Taylor said. “I don’t think we attacked area and regionals differently this year than we did any other year.”
Coach Taylor believed a lot of the athletes performed at their highest levels at the most important time of the season. Eight different Legacy athletes placed top five in their events.
“I think as far as our individual times, our athletes performed well,” Coach Taylor said. “As the season extends it gets tougher. So we want practice to look the same leading up to big events like this.”
Junior Lincoln Wright prepared for this event by lowering mileage overall and remaining well-rested.
“Advancing to area was crucial because it gave us another opportunity to perform at a high level,” Wright said. “I believe we did pretty well because we are combined with one of the hardest districts in all of Texas.”
Wright believed the main goal for this track season consisted of pushing harder than ever to advance to area.
“I think because of our competition, we performed pretty well at area,” Wright said. “ We were well prepared and went out there and did our job.”
Coach Taylor believed all the hard work the athletes put in ended up becoming a key factor of why they were on the verge of advancing to area.
“Seeing our team scoring a lot of points and giving ourselves a chance to compete was honestly special to me,” Taylor said. “These athletes put in a lot of work this season, so it’s rewarding to see them perform well.”
