Zombie Prom, the first musical produced by the theater department, will soon creep out of the grave and into to the PAC Jan. 20 and stay until Jan. 23.
According to Ms. McIntyre, the musical has already cost $2,300 in royalties alone and more expenses are well on the way.
“I haven’t done a musical at this school yet, but we used to do musicals at my old school where I taught,” McIntyre said. “You just get groups of kids who are all different walks of life. It’s just a way to get all the kids together and put on a big project; something to be proud of.”
The cast members are also excited to be a part of the the experience of being in the first musical. Among these students, senior Dallas Reid was surprised to find his name on the cast list.
“I didn’t think I was going to get a part; that I was going to get tech. Then I got casted as Jonny,” Reid said. “It was probably one of the best moments of my life when I saw that cast list.”
According to Ms. McIntyre, preforming Zombie Prom creates a great start to a future of musicals. It’s an off Broadway production, 50’s themed and about Zombies, which Ms. McIntyre finds hilarious.
“I love to be a part of stuff that starts a new tradition,” senior Kaylee Wilson said. “I feel like this is the start of something really big at Legacy.”
Zombie Prom has a very diverse cast, with kids coming from theater, choir and some from band. According to Ms. McIntyre, 120 students auditioned for a part in the musical, and only 36 or 37 were called back. Each student had their own reasoning for auditioning for Zombie Prom.
“I was in theater freshman year, then I left it and kind of regretted it,” senior Kaley Nordlof said. “I figured it was my senior year, and I might as well do it while I had the chance.”
