The Mansfield district art show displayed the work of student artists, grades 5-12, in the Old Rock Gym from May 4-7.
Because of the swine flu epidemic the reception was canceled and very few visitors attended the show.
“I didn’t even know my art was entered in the show,” sophomore Jasmine McMasters said. “But I thought it was cool I won ‘Best in show’ in the AP category because I was up against seniors.”
Even though the gym remained empty for the majority of the week, 18 art students found they had received awards when they returned to class after the weekend.
“They made the district show a bigger deal than it was,” senior Sami Fishburn said, “even though VASE is like the super bowl of art competitions.”

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I think Jasmine said that with some attitude, like she was going to get out a can of whoop a** on some seniors. You go grrrlll. In fact, I heard all those kids at Legacy who got awards were getting t-shirts made; “Best of Show = Better than the Rest”…some might say they are conceited little paste eaters, I say, No way, just confident talented paste eaters…
