Senior Yearbook Ads Due Friday; Yearbook Offers New Products

Senior yearbook ads are due to the journalism room this Friday, October 2 by 2:30. Students or parents who want an ad in the back of the 2010 yearbook, need to fill out the advertising agreement which can be downloaded at www.legacyjournalism.org.

“Because of strict deadlines, we have to have the ad in on time,” Journalism Adviser Leland Mallett  said. “I hate to tell parents ‘no,’ but I have to after the deadline.”

Senior ads are produced by yearbook students. Once the ad is complete, the photos and a proof are mailed back to parents.

“I figure parents are making an investment in the ad,” Mr. Mallet said, “so it’s important for us to get it right.”

There has also been some confusion about selecting senior pictures for the yearbook.

Top of Texas Photography will send Mr. Mallett a proof book of senior photos. Seniors may then choose which photo will go in the yearbook. There will be announcements and online updates to inform seniors when to come select their photo for the book.

“We only have the proof book for a few days,” Mr. Mallett said. “I hate to pick a photo for a senior, but I’m forced to if they don’t in the time frame we have the proof book.”

The 2010 Arena will be 32 pages bigger this year (368 total pages) and will also include a DVD and online supplement. The cost is $70 and can be purchased at www.legacyjournalism.org.

“Many students didn’t get a book last year because they didn’t preorder,” Mr.  Mallett said. “We didn’t and won’t this year order any extra yearbooks.”

Because of budgetary reasons, Mallett says it’s not financially smart to order extra yearbooks.

Taylor Publishing  chose Legacy High School’s yearbook as a pilot school for a new product they are offering. Student organizations or sports teams can build 4-8 pages for their book. They can use their own photos and create their own captions.

“I hope it catches on here,” Yearbook Editor Caroline Hoce said. “This new add-on will allow students to have ownership in building their yearbook and allow them to be in the book more.”

Mr. Mallett will announce details on the new program in January.

“Taylor is still working out software and logistics,” Mr. Mallett said, “but we’ll be ready to roll at the first of the year.”
