Jody Dean , radio broadcaster and published author, will visit the campus Thursday, Oct. 22, to talk to student journalists about media convergence.
“I want all of [us] to see and hear what a professional broadcaster looks and sounds like,” Broadcast Journalism teacher Jim Cockrell said. “Sometimes you see these guys on TV and you have one vision of them, then when you see them in another setting, you see this is a real guy.”
The meeting will take place in room E-O102, start at 12:55 and last through fourth block.
“The new media’s the Internet,” Mr. Cockrell said. “Hopefully we’ll learn something by it, and be inspired.”
Faculty and staff with the period off can come listen to Mr. Dean speak.
“He’s got automatic credibility because he’s been down the path. He’s living through what a lot of [Legacy Student Media students] are training to be,” Mr. Cockrell said.
As media evolves from newspapers and television into a new entity, outlets must change the way they do business.
“He’s a great guy, he’s very entertaining. I think the class will get a real hoot out of it,” Mr. Cockrell said.
