Softball and baseball will host the third Annual Kickball Tournament this Saturday at Legacy’s soccer, practice and baseball fields from 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. In conjunction with the tournament, there will be a silent auction.
Softballs signed by the Bronco Softball team, T-Shirts, Ranger tickets and other items will be sold at the auction.
“I think this is a good way to raise money,” softball captain Rebecca Scarbrough said. “It’s actually worth putting money into.”
According to Scarbrough, she prepared for the kickball tournament by making T-shirts and bandanas with other captains. She believes this will make the event overall more entertaining.
“It’s more for fun,” Scarbrough said, “but I still think my team is going do better than last year.”
Students in the softball and baseball classes were required to recruit 15 members for a kickball team and raise $150. If a team of 15 was formed, members only had to pay $10. If 10 were recruited, the price was raised to $15.
“It was a lot easier to recruit for the tournament,” Angel Velasquez said. “This year it’s cheaper and a lot of people are excited for it.”
Velasquez participated in the tournament last year and believes she is more prepared to partake in this year’s tournament from the experience she gained last year.
“We look forward to this year being another success,” softball coach Mayfield said. “It’s a win-win for everyone involved.”
The kickball tournaments are student run and built upon this previous years, allowing for adaptation and a better organized event.
“Every year we make things easier not only for the players, but for us as well,” Mayfield said.
