Invisible Children Club filled an empty classroom with 3,200 donated books providing literature for schools in Africa. World Geography teacher Catherine McGuinness’ freshman classes helped Invisible Children collect over four times the books donated last year.
“We’ve quadrupled any effort we did last year,” Ms. McGuinness said. “It’s just really awesome that we were able to get so many books.”
All the books collected arrive in Africa free of charge through the Invisible Children organization in the coming weeks. McGuinness predicts that Legacy’s contribution will provide books for four different schools.
“[It’s] really great that we provided [books] for four schools,” Ms. McGuinness said. “All their books will be coming from us.”
Ms. McGuinness’ fifth period class ended up with the most points. The points were based on the type of book, i.e., an Encyclopedia set would count for more than a chapter book.
“[We] help give children a place away from home because that isn’t always the safest place for them to be,” Ms. McGuinness said.
The Invisible Children Club meets on Mondays after school in Ms. McGuinness’ room.

This is a wonderfully written story. It’s great that your school is able to do such beneficial humanitarian work abroad. Congratulations to The Rider for gaining such a respectable online presense not only at Legacy, but throughout the district!
