Sports Medicine Instructor, Weldon Thompson, created LB’ers (Pounders club) for students and teachers to learn how to lose weight and live healthy.

The first meeting will be held Monday, Feb. 8th in Room AH104 after school.

“I have been thinking about this for a long time, and I figured with the tools and connections I have being a trainer, I want to help those kids,” Thompson said.

Club members will split up into teams consisting of one student and one teacher. They will compete to see which team can lose the most body fat. Each team can make shirts for themselves and their supporters.

“We want to teach students not to quit, teach others what they learn, and how to work out properly,” Thompson said.

Each member will sign a contract stating their promise not to quit, and will teach others what they learn. Students will learn nutrition, how to eat healthy and recognize the foods they eat throughout the day.

“Being a coach, I have access to equipment and people in the community also want to help,” Thompson said.

Students will exercise using aerobics, yoga and kickboxing. People and parents in the community have donated treadmills for the program.

At the end of the semester a five and a half mile run will take place, ending at Legacy where their supporters will cheer them on.
