Recently, our library was given the description of “Best Practices” in the nation by Cengage Learning. Cengage can see how often the Gale Virtual Reference Library is being accessed by students. The company chose six libraries throughout the nation and highlighted what they were doing.
Mrs. Pinkerton, the librarian, was recognized for what she has been doing for the students. Mrs. Pinkerton made using Gale Virtual Reference Library much more user friendly by adding sub-collections. Later widgets were added to the Legacy library website. Widgets narrow down the searching process. For instance, there may be a chemistry widget that a student could search through. The information Gale pulls up about chemistry are books that are a foundation resource. If a student needs a certain widget, Mrs. Pinkerton can make one in about a half an hour.
“It’s nice to have something that I’ve done recognized on a national level,” Mrs. Pinkerton said.
The Legacy library was given this name because of how much the students are using the Gale Virtual Reference Library. According to Mrs. Pinkerton, the whole learning to do the sub-collections and widgets was from wanting to find a way to get resources to students everywhere.
“Gale brings up a lot of stuff like newspaper articles,” Rebecca Bradley, 9, said. “it gives me a lot of information.”

That’s fantastic that Mrs.Pinkerton got our library recognized. I really appreciate what she does for all of us legacy students. It makes finding information on a subject a lot easier and faster. Its amazing how many students use the Gale Virtual References. I’m sure a lot of students appreciate Mrs. Pinkertons work and time she puts into that for us as i do.
