After spending 11 hours creating a video, accumulating 43,874 votes, and making the top five finalists out of the West region, Legacy cheerleaders were selected to cheer at the US All American Army Bowl football game on Saturday, Jan. 8 at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio, TX.
“I am very excited that our cheerleaders have been given the opportunity to represent Legacy at the US Army All-American Bowl Game. This is a prestigious event where under a hundred of the nations top football players in our country will play. I know this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I am proud Legacy will not only be represented on the football field, but on the sidelines as well,” varsity cheer coach Cassidy Lakota said.
Senior Alison Peterson and other cheerleaders rallied Legacy students to vote for their video. After hearing the news that the team would be cheering for Tevin Mitchel and other players, Peterson knew working on the video and getting everyone to vote was worth her time.
“When we were first introduced to the contest, I was a little hesitant about going along with it because I knew the video making process would take up a lot of time. Yet a few days later, the cheerleaders finally came to a consensus and decided to enter the competition. I was a little worried about getting enough votes, but Legacy’s student body is well known for its excessive dedication and support to various events and fundraisers, so I hoped they would support us the same and it all paid off in the end,” Peterson said.
The US Army All-American Bowl sponsors fitted the cheerleaders for new uniforms to represent their region, the West.
Coach Lakota and Bowl sponsors continue to work out details before the event.
