Jazz, Choir Perform March 5

On Saturday, March 5 Legacy jazz and choir members will perform for The Bronco Big Band Bash. Tickets, on sale in the band hall before and after school, sell for $10 apiece, and include dinner. This year’s theme, Cityscapes, celebrates Jazz in American cities.

“The Bash is a great way to get together with your friends to chill and dance to some fun music,” junior Morgan Wood said.  “It takes you back a few decades music-wise, and is really fun. I wish the rest of the school could be more aware of it and come, because it shows some of the nerdy band kids doing their thing.”

The doors open at 6 p.m. for The Bash in the Legacy High School Cafeteria, with a silent auction starting at 6:30 to last until 8:30.  Those who pay in advance will be served dinner from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., and the dance will start at 7 p.m. and end at 9 p.m., all the while the school jazz band will play the musical selections that they have prepared.

“There are two types of jazz songs: serious jazz tunes which are more in depth and appeal more to musicians, and pop jazz which are upbeat and more fun to dance to,” junior Neil Hoang said.  “My favorite piece is ‘Birdland’ by Maynard Ferguson, because it makes everything seem happy, and it’s easy to move to.”

Legacy Magic Show Choir, as well as Wood, will the will provide vocals during the band’s performance. Wood has contributed to the jazz band and The Bash since her freshmen year.

“Singing is definitely my favorite [part of the bash],” Wood said. “I get really nervous but excited because I want people to like my voice.”
