Miss LHS will take place on March 10 at 7 p.m. in the PAC. All profits from Miss LHS benefit L.U.C.K. week beneficiary Ethan Hallmark, who currently battles stage four neuroblastoma.
Seniors Kaylee Wilson and Nikki Childs and sophomore Maddie Schimming serve as planners for the pageant. Last year, the show raised more than a $1,000, and the committee hopes to double these earnings.
“I think Miss LHS is a fun and good way to raise money,” Nikki Childs said. “I love seeing the guys dress up as girls and the girls dress up as guys.”
Miss LHS follows the traditional beauty pageant format, but with a twist. Instead of the normal female contestants, boys dressed in drag will compete. All of the participants try to earn the coveted title of Miss LHS, and any Legacy student can participate.
“I am hoping that more people are going to get involved because of Ethan,” Maddie Schimming said. “That they are competing for the right reasons.
Ethan’s sister will attend Miss LHS so the committee decided on a Burlesque theme in honor of her.
“We wanted to give Ethan’s sister a chance to shine since she is sometimes in the background,” Schimming said. “So we decided to have a girly theme so she would feel incorporated into the week.
Last year Miss LHS was emceed by radio personality Kellie Rasberry. This year, however, current title holder of Miss LHS, senior Dillion Ford, will host the event. Also, the committee plans on having Mrs. Teen Texas and other special guests on the judging panel.
“I wanted to work on Miss LHS because it is a big event of L.U.C.K. week,” Wilson said. “It is a good way for people to come together for a cause that is bigger than us.”
