Representatives from the Mansfield ISD technology department will host iPads in Action on Jan. 31 from 6-6:30 p.m. in the PAC. District officials organized the event in order to answer any questions parents might have about navigating and monitoring their child’s iPad.
“The purpose of this meeting is really to be more informative to our parents; to help them gain an understanding of how to work the technology, also, to train them up, so that they could also use the iPad’s for their personal use as well,” Principal Des Stewart said. “[The purpose is] for them to gain some type of understanding of how to work with the iPads but also understand what the district’s expectations are when it comes to the use of these devices.”
Officials will address questions including who should be in control of the iPad in terms of what apps are installed and how often parents should check up on their student’s iPad.
“I think it should definitely be a collaborative effort between student and parent to see if that app is going to give them the biggest bang for their buck,” Mr. Stewart said. “Also, for the parent to see if they can use it for whatever their occupation may be.”
Parents are asked to bring their student’s iPad to the meeting so they can participate in the hands-on segment of the presentation.
“We have to crawl before we can walk. By giving our parents the information they need to help them at least be able to turn the iPad on and to navigate on the internet using the iPad, I think that’s a huge step in the right direction,” Mr. Stewart said. “We just want to more or less train them up and help them build confidence in using the iPad.”
