Twice a year parents have the rare opportunity to step into their child’s shoes for a night, going from classroom to classroom. Spring open house for all MISD high schools will be held on Monday, February 2, 2015. Parents and students are welcome to show up at any time between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Open houses prove as a great opportunity for teachers to interact with parents and for parents to learn about what their student does every day.
There are many benefits to attending Spring Open House. Principal Dr. Shelly Butler encourages all parents, and even students, to come to the event.
“It gives us a chance to show off what we’re doing on campus,” Dr. Butler said. “It also gives parents a chance to ask more specific questions they may want to get answered.”
English teacher and coach Rachel Ryan will be looking forward to meeting and talking with parents of students.
“Open house is a good opportunity,” Coach Ryan said. “It allows parents to see what their child is learning about.”
Parents will be able to visit teachers freely. A second part of the night will have information sessions for parents and students to go to. Session topics include financial aid, AP programs, and others. The sessions will be approximately 30 minutes in length.
“This is right before we do registration for next year so they may need to hear opportunities available to their kids before they make a decision,” Dr. Butler said. “It’s a good chance to invite people in.”
