Toys for Tots donations will again be welcome this year as the charity continues to collect toys for children in need all over the world. Run by the U.S. Marine Corps, Toys for Tots will also hold a special event Dec. 9.
The event will feature such attractions as Santa photos, a parade, and food trucks, all held in the Center for Performing Arts parking lot. Marching band and drill team will be performing live as well. However, with only 154 toys collected so far, Julie Daniel, Stuco sponsor seems somewhat let down with the results so far.
“I’m disappointed more kids aren’t bringing toys,” Daniel said. “I just would like to encourage all kids to give back this time of year.”
The district wide charity drive has individual leaders in schools, for which Ms. Daniel was chosen. The event was opened and donation was available on Nov. 16, and will continue until December 10. Stuco members like Madison Giese, 11, believe the charity event to be a worthy cause and feel proud to have it sponsored by the district.
“I think it’s really good because kids who can’t afford toys still deserve a good Christmas,” Giese said.
Daniels supports the event and appreciates what MISD does for the Toys for Tots organization.
“I think it’s cool that the district does this,” Daniel said. “It’s more important to give than to receive.”
