Student Council elections for the 2019-2020 school year begins on Monday April 29 and will end on May 1. Juniors, sophomores and freshmen will receive an email with ballots to vote on the assigned day, and the voting will close at 5 p.m.
Student Body Parliamentarian Candidates: Beau Kilgore and Jaylen Kendricks
Beau Kilgore
Why are you running for Student Body Parliamentarian?
“I really wanted to have a challenge and go for student body, I didn’t just want to go for class president,” Kilgore said. “I want to make [StuCo] a better place for everyone and bring my work ethic into it.
What do you hope to do with this position?
“[I hope] to do my job in the way Mrs. Kavnar tells me to and to do it to the best of my ability,” Kilgore said.
What do you hope to change in the next year?
“I want to get our student body to be more inclusive in the pep rallies and have more school spirit,” Kilgore said. “That’s ultimately the goal for student council anyways: getting that out and getting more participation in pep rallies and at school.”
Why should we vote for you?
“I think I have a hard-work ethic and am a good leader,” Kilgore said. ”I believe I can really be a voice for the students and ultimately make it a better place for everyone here.”
Why do you personally want this position?
“I don’t want it for popularity reasons or to have a position for the name,” Kilgore said. “I just want to help StuCo the best I can and to really impact StuCo and our school in general.”
Jaylen Kendricks
Why are you running for Student Body Parliamentarian?
“I am running for Student Body Parliamentarian and Junior Class President because a major part of my life is leadership,” Kendricks said. “With being in student council, I can fulfill my role of being a leader.”
What do you hope to do with this position?
“I hope to move people towards the right direction as a Student Body and make the kids want to enjoy coming to school by furthermore providing them for what they ask,” Kendricks said. “I can make the student body feel heard.”
What do you hope to change next year?
Next year, me and my fellow peers strive to improve Legacy school spirit because that is something you want to remember from high school, Kendricks said. [I want] to also keep improving and adding to the activities we did this year.
Why should students vote for you?
“People should vote for me because I love listening to people and I can always give them the right feedback, and most importantly leadership is key,” Kendricks said.
Why do you want these positions, and what will happen if you win both elections?
“There is no way for me to win both positions, if I don’t win Student Body Parliamentarian then I am still on the ballot for Junior class President,” Kendricks said. “If I do win Student Body, I am automatically removed from the Junior Class ballot because Student Body comes first.”
Senior Class Presidential Candidates: Jeffery Chanta, Landrie Lewellyn and McKenzie Farmer

Why are you running for Senior Class President?
“I definitely feel like I can impact and change some things for the class of 2020, and definitely make it the best class out here,” Chanta said. “I want to bring more spirit to our class and have more class events. I want to bring more events to the class of 2020.”
What do you want to do with the presidency?
“I want to be able to put the senior class out there and be the best class we can be,” Chanta said.
What do you hope to change for next year?
“I definitely want to change the atmosphere, how it feels,” Chanta said. “I definitely want people to be willing to do things and not make it seem like it’s mandatory to do it.”
Why should we vote for you over other candidates?
“You should vote for me because I’m out there, and I do spend a lot of time on the things that I plan for the class of 2020,” Chanta said. “I definitely did sacrifice a lot, and I try to do everything to the best of my ability.”
Why do you personally want this position?
“I want this position because I feel like I can influence big decisions for the senior class,” Chanta said.
McKenzie Farmer
Why are you running for Senior Class President?
“I’m running because I was co-junior class president with Major, and I really enjoyed being in it my junior year,” Farmer said. “I really enjoyed being in it this year as well as last year because last year I wasn’t in anything really. I was just in student council as a member and I was in the class the second semester so I really got involved in it, and that’s why I want to continue doing it.”
What do you plan to do with this position?
“It’s kind of about making senior year more fun,” Farmer said. “As senior class president, you work as a whole in student council, so it’s not like it’s just you making decisions. You work with everyone.”
What are some things you hope to change next year?
“We as student council, hope to get more people involved in school and to get school spirit up,” Farmer said. “It’s already starting to work with like talking to people and going to classrooms and stuff. As long as we get more people involved, everything else that we do works out.”
Why do you personally want this position?
“Since last year, Major and I were co-junior class presidents, it’s like moving on and continuing the same responsibilities as the junior class,” Farmer said. “It would be in the same field and would be the same things.”
Why should we vote for you over other candidates?
“I had experience last year with being co-junior class president and the year before being in student council in general, so experience,” Farmer said.
Landrie Lewellen
Why are you running for Senior Class President?
“I’m running for senior class president because I’ve been in StuCo for years now and I just like being a leader,” Lewellyn said. “I just think it’s time to step it up and I love helping people. I love being the person that people come to. It being senior year, I want to be that person people come to and ask questions. I want to be the one to make it memorable.”
What do you hope to do with this position?
“Again, senior year is basically the turning point [of] our lives because everyone is turning 18 and about to leave for college,” Lewellyn said. “You’re probably not going to see these people again so I think it’s important to make memories and plan certain events to get them hyped about their last year in high school. Because it should be fun, you should enjoy your last year in high school.”
What are you hoping to change next year?
“I hope to change the environment,” Lewellyn said. “Like instead of just StuCo going to sports games, I’m hoping to get everyone involved in going to theater performances and choir concerts. Because if you support those things then they are going to support student council events, and I think that’ll get more people involved in our dress up days and pep rallies.”
Why should we vote for you over other candidates?
“You should vote for me because I’m good at communicating whether it’s to adults, faculty or staff,” Lewellyn said. “I’m in a lot of activities, like I’m in journalism, soccer, cross country, StuCo and I also have a lot of experience talking to different types of people.”
Why do you want this position?
“I want this position because it is important to me to lead other people and I think I have great qualities to do it,” Lewellyn said. “I don’t want my high school years to go away, so I want to do something meaningful. It’s a goal of mine to basically do as much as I can, so I think it’s a good position for me.”
Senior Vice President Candidates: Iyanna Nunn and Harmoni Turner

Why are you running for Senior Class Vice President?
“I’m running for class VP so that I can get out of my comfort zone and try something new and fun,” Turner said.
What do you hope to do with this position?
“With this position, I not only want to interact with each student, but also set a positive example for Legacy and the community,” Turner said.
What do you hope to change in this next school year?
“I hope to better the school spirit and spread diversity, along with improving on influencing students to reach for the stars in life,” Turner said.
Why should students vote for you?
“People should vote for me because I’m hardworking, loyal, dedicated and willing to put others before myself,” Turner said.
Why do you personally want this position?
“I want this position so that I can make known that I’ll help improve school spirit, spread diversity and work as hard as I can to help others accomplish their goals,” Turner said.
Iyanna Nunn
Why are you running for Senior Class Vice President?
“I am running for senior class Vice President because I want to make senior enjoyable for the class of 2020,” Nunn said.
What do you hope to do with this position?
“I hope to increase the amount of money the class of 2020 has so that we can have a great prom and senior activities,” Nunn said.
What do you hope to change next year?
“I hope to change the amount of school spirit we have at Legacy by trying to get more people involved in school sponsored events,” Nunn said. “I would like to increase the amount of fundraisers we have for the senior class during the year so that senior activities like prom are successful and fun.”
Why should students vote for you?
“People should vote for me because I am very hard working,” Nunn said. “When I put my mind to something I do it with the intent of it not only being successful but also with great quality. Also I am able to give a lot of time to student council and have great ideas for our upcoming year that involve fundraising and senior activities so that our senior year is memorable.”
Why do you personally want this position?
“I want this position because I want to focus mainly on the senior class rather than the entire student body so that my attention goes to us having a great senior year,” Nunn said.
Junior Class President: Ana Pacheco and Jaylen Kendricks

Why are you running for Junior class President?
“I am running because I want to give better ideas and a bigger choice for the junior class,” Pacheco said.
What do you hope to change for next year?
“I hope to change the fact that many more students will join and enjoy StuCo just as much as I enjoy it,” Pacheco said.
Why should we vote for you?
“The junior class should vote for me because I will do my best to give them what they want and put to action the ideas they want,” Pacheco said.
Why do you personally want this position?
“I want this personally because it will help me for my future as I get older and know how to handle different situations the right way,” Pacheco said. “I hope it will make me a bigger, better and more confident person.”

Why are you running for Junior Class Vice President?
“I’m running to get people more involved and also get more involved myself,” Burkham said.
What are the current major school issues?
“I feel we have a lack of school spirit and not enough people participating in school events,” Burkham said.
How do you plan on changing these issues?
“I would collect and consider the ideas of the students around me and reflect them in our events so students are more willing to participate,” Burkham said.
What things do you want to change?
“I want to change how the school events are done. I want students to want to participate in something they find fun versus being forced to do something they don’t really enjoy,” Burkham said.
What makes you different?
“I’m determined, and I have a nice personality,” Burkham said. “The student body will find me nice and won’t feel shy about helping me make the school events fun for everyone. They won’t be nervous about contributing ideas.”
Adrianne Plumlee
Why are you running for Junior Class Vice President?
“I feel it would be a really good chance to be more involved with the school,” Plumlee said.
What are the major issues with the school right now?
“I think we need more school spirit, that’s our problem,” Plumlee said.
How do you plan on changing these problems?
“By enforcing and showing school spirit myself to inspire others to do the same,” Plumlee said.
What makes you different from you other candidates?
“I’m really passionate and super hard worker and really dedicated and excited,” Plumlee said.
What are the big things you want to change?
“I’d like to change how students respect teachers and how teachers respect students so we can create a better relationship between us,” Plumlee said.
