Using phones in school all day becomes a distraction for students learning in the classroom. Students/teens should give less attention to social media and give more attention to involvement in school activities. The no-phone policy was put into place in 2023 to limit the distractions being used in the classroom. Schools should keep the no phone policy.
Teens can develop depression, anxiety and loneliness by what they see on a social media platform which can intensify if not taken care of. Suicide rates have grown 14.2 times higher since 2022. Students may also struggle with failing grades by not engaging with students, participating in classroom activities and having low metabolism during the day. In addition, this could likely affect other students with their school work as well.
Teens may not recognize the help they can receive because they might feel alone. Students can benefit from the no phone policy by being able to step back from the negativity of social media and will be able to engage in activities that will surround themselves with people who can give positive attitudes. Grades will start to improve by being able to focus on school work and developing a higher metabolism by the decrease of stress and worry.
Opponents of the no-phone policy say students/teens should have their phones in class to contact their parents or guardians during an emergency or just to keep in contact with them during the day. During an emergency, campus administrators will communicate immediately with students’ emergency contacts.
Overall, schools should keep the no-phone policy. Students benefit from the policy by building relationships and being able to focus without their attention on social media.
