It seems like every week one of the best teams falls in the ranks because of a big upset. The first game of the season was a huge upset as unranked Georgia Tech beat number ten Florida State with a last-second field goal in Dublin, Ireland, making Florida State unranked heading into week two. In week two number five Notre Dame lost at home 16-14 to unranked Northern Illinois. Week five also had an action-packed week as unranked Kentucky beat number six Ole Miss 20-17, and number four Alabama defeated number two Georgia 41-34 in a thriller, making Alabama number one going into week six.
Week six of the college football season turned out to be one of the craziest in recent history. Five of the top eleven teams got upset. Number eleven USC lost 24-17 to an unranked Minnesota. Unranked Washington beat number ten Michigan 27-17 in a national championship rematch, and number nine Missouri lost to number twenty-five Texas A&M. The biggest upset of the day came when Unranked Vanderbilt beat number one Alabama. Vanderbilt Came in 0-7 against number-one teams, and the last time they beat Alabama was in 1984. This went down as a massive upset because Vanderbilt came into the game 22.5 point underdogs. But the week had one more big upset, unranked Arkansas beat number four Tennessee finishing off the craziest week ever.
You need to watch this college football season, every game holds importance and can change in a split second. Every team maintains a chance of losing even if they are the best team in the country. College football proceeds to be becoming more popular than the NFL because of the action-packed games that happen at any time. The NFL averages around 18 million viewers a week, while college football now gets more than half of that in one game.
In ten years college football will be bigger than the NFL. The schools get more money and the players do too. NIL changed college football by keeping players from declaring for the draft early because they get paid as much or more than they would in the NFL. Before NIL in college football, the best players would go to the best schools, but now the best players might go to a school that doesn’t have a history of winning because they can get more money. This makes games way more exciting because one great player could help beat a top-ten team.
Next Saturday when you wake up, turn on college football. You will have a way better experience than waking up to watch the NFL on a Sunday.
