The increased use of artificial intelligence from teens leaves room to wonder if AI should be allowed in the classroom or not. AI brings many positive aspects including: sparking students’ imagination and their creative abilities within the classroom and teaching them how to ask the proper questions to best achieve their educational goals. Those opposing the use of artificial intelligence state that it negatively impacts the teachers, creating an extra burden when grading their students’ work. Artificial intelligence should not be used in the classroom.
Students continue to use AI as an academic crutch, which allows students to get around doing the work used to test their skills and teach them the subject. Students who use artificial intelligence run the risk of losing comprehension skills when they lean on AI to help them do their work. When students use AI, teachers aren’t able to tell if their information is accurate, leading to a decrease in student credibility. With the growth in AI, students’ abilities to comprehend their work and problem solving abilities continues to decrease. Today, students are finding every way to get past learning, and this will heavily impact them in their future. AI is relatively new, meaning that it has every opportunity to make mistakes, and when students are using AI in their work, they won’t be able to understand what’s right and what’s wrong. Teachers need to be more strict with their students and make sure that they continue to enforce the rules of the classroom and keep AI out of students’ work.
Teachers are not given the proper training in how to use AI in their classrooms, causing education to fall behind in developing alongside artificial intelligence. Teachers shouldn’t be burdened with teaching their students how to use AI when they haven’t had training themselves and are still learning how to maneuver students cheating with AI. As students use AI, it’s become harder to detect as AI is learning the methods and ways students write, leaving teachers to wonder if the work is the students or AI. The lack of knowledge shown by teachers in the realm of artificial intelligence proves that students should not have such easy access to AI. Instead, teachers should focus on teaching their students proper ways of research, and finding the tools that will help them understand the concept, and if the teacher is comfortable enough, teach them the proper AI tools that will help them advance in their learning.
Proponents state that classrooms are adapting to AI, and experts are taking statistics on how to create a safe environment where students are still able to learn with the help of AI. However, AI causes many risks for students in the classroom because of ethical issues, and leading to an increase in potential misuse of data. AI is a learning process, and if people aren’t being taught how to use it properly, it’s going to get out of hand, and education will be taken over because AI won’t be considered a helping hand anymore. People don’t know enough about AI to have it being used daily on students’ assignments.
Artificial Intelligence has the potential to develop the world and help students advance through school and learning, but there’s too much that isn’t known about AI to be able to fully understand its effects within the classroom if it’s used on a daily basis. Students will misuse the information at hand, and won’t be able to gain the critical thinking skills they need. The school systems should work to keep AI out of the classrooms and focus on expanding students’ critical thinking skill
