Katie O’Keefe

A tight knot develops in Katie O’Keefe’s, 12, stomach as she walks alongside the field. While trying to stop worrying about her solo, O’Keefe puts her flags and rifle down beside the football field. When the band finishes playing stand tunes for the drill team, O’Keefe gracefully walks onto the field and finds her spot. When the drum majors begin conducting, O’Keefe dances with the cool breeze brushing against her on the football field during halftime, all the while tossing her rifle and flags.

What extracurricular activities are you in?
“I’ve been in colorguard for three, going on four years. It takes up a lot of time, but it’s fun and worth it in the end. I was JV captain of winterguard my freshman year, lieutenant my junior year, and captain my senior year. Everyone involved is funny, and that makes my day everyday. When I graduate I will miss the people the most.”

What are your hobbies outside of colorguard?
“I love hanging out with friends, watching Harry Potter movies, and watching the Dallas Stars play. My favorite Harry Potter book is the 5th. I couldn’t put it down (while I was reading it). My favorite Harry Potter movies are the fourth and sixth. I’ve been going to hockey games since I was little but I didn’t really get into it until last year.”

What are the most memorable competitions you’ve been to?
“The most memorable competitions I’ve competed in are WGI (world) and state. Everybody worked toward the same goal and had so much energy. My sophomore year, winterguard made semi-finals at WGI.”

In ten years, where do you see yourself?
“In ten years I see myself as a Ultrasound technician and married with kids. I will probably still be living in Texas as an alumni of TCU.”
