Neil Hoang and Klair Julian

Junior Neil Hoang paced the hallway belonging to the parents of his future girlfriend. When senior Klair Julian, the girl he liked, expressed feelings of doubt in a relationship with him because of her parents, he immediately began to conspire a solution to the problem: asking the parents for their approval himself.

“Her parents are both teachers at different schools, so I went separately to ask for their permission to date their daughter,” Hoang said. “Her dad jokingly gave me an application to see if I qualified to go out with Klair, and was surprisingly fine with us dating after I talked to him.”

Satisfied with the first accepting parent, Hoang moved onto Julian’s mom. He considered this to be the bigger of the two challenges, because she had a somewhat unenthusiastic response to high school guys after Julian approached her about it.

“I tried to talk to her about dating before, but she didn’t say anything positive or negative,” Julian said. “The whole conversation got me confused and gave me the impression she didn’t think much about dating in high school.”

Startling enough to the soon-to-be couple, her mom was agreeable when Hoang asked for dating permission a day after he asked her dad.

“After I got home from talking to her mom, I called Klair right away,” Hoang said. “I was going to wait until the next day to ask her out, but I was too excited to wait.”

Meanwhile, Julian was sitting at home, nervous and slightly sick to her stomach in suspense, waiting to hear the outcome. Then the phone rang.

“I asked her out after I told her that her parents would acknowledge that we were dating, and she said yes,” Hoang said. “I immediately put the phone a safe distance away, jumped up and down, ran around and punched the bed before I went back to the phone all chill.”

Past the parental obstacles, Hoang and Julian started dating steady from then on.
“I asked her out the end of April,” Hoang said. “We just had our 7th month anniversary and we’re still happily dating.”

This story is amazing. It’s so cute, and its awesome to read about a couple that’s been together for longer than 2 months. I ESPECIALLY love the fact that Neil asked the parents for permission. That shows A LOT of character and respect:)
