Sitting at the cloudy, black art tables Haven Berbel squints at her project. She erases a corner of the paper and redraws it neater, adding more detail. She smiles and moves her eyes to the middle of the page ready to make the necessary adjustments.
“I love art, from photography to drawing to painting,” junior Haven Berbel said, “I love all mediums.”
Berbel’s artistic mother encouraged and gave Berbel the opportunity to explore and enrich her art from a very young age.
“Ever since I could I’ve worked with art,” Berbel said.
Berbel currently takes AP Studio art, which encompasses all aspects of AP Design and AP Drawing. She works independently so she can learn from her mistakes and improve her art while enjoying her hobby.
“I’m good at drawing and water colors,” Berbel said. “Those are my specialties.”
AP Studio art challenges Berbel to work on techniques and try different projects she doesn’t have much experience in.
“Working outside of what you’re use to is the hardest thing about art,” Berbel said.
Berbel would like to make a career out of her hobby by becoming a computer graphic designer like the ones that helped make the movie Avatar.
“I think it would be the coolest thing to work on something like Avatar,” Berbel said.
Some view art as just a hobby but Berbel feels more passionate about it.
“For me it’s very relaxing, its very flowy and calming,” Berbel said.
