Alex Richardson’s rocky artwork began to draw attention to the locals living in Galveston. The calm, sandy beaches were soon filled with dozens of this unknown artist’s work. Most people wondered while some just ignored.

Former Legacy student, Alex Richardson, was 19 years old when his rock stacking love began. The beaches of Galveston were populated with tourists from around the state to see these amazing statues built by the freshman at A&M University at Galveston

“I don’t do this for recognition,” Richardson said. “I do this because it’s relaxing and the people enjoy seeing it.”

Nobody knew Richardson did this, except for his friends and family. Alex’s family first saw his work, and they were amazed. His grandmother was the one who really became interested in his artwork.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Richardson’s grandmother Cynthia said. “His work is truly amazing.”

Richardson has never received any credit for his art. Newspapers and advertisements have shown what he does, but nobody knows who it is.

In a local newspaper it is stated that rocky stacks started appearing at the beach at Fort Crockett Park. It’s believed, by locals, that a Texas A&M University at Galveston student is the creator of many of the stacks.

He can build the statues out of anything, and will never tell anyone where he puts them. His sister said she was bewildered when she saw a stack of her things built up in the corner.

“It’s not something you see every day,” Brittany Richardson said. “He has a real talent.”

Alex enjoys what he does in his spare time. He studies hard during school hours then goes to build his statues.

“I love what I do, because it seems to represent me,” Alex said. “I plan to do them for as long as I can.”
