The cast rehearsed Act Two for the first time after studying their appointed characters, and junior Tony Timberman selected a harsh, nasally voice for his role. People looked up from their new scripts, concerned, to see who had made the strange, gravelly voice. One actor missed his lines because of the distraction.
“I have the ability to speak in outbursts and get peoples’ attention,” Timberman said. “It’s a skill I’ve greatly improved upon, and am quite proud of.”
Timberman took his first few theater classes in middle school as a course requirement, but now three years later he continues participating in the elective. He currently acts for the Improv troupe and Theater 3/4, musical theater, and technical theatre.
“I always had a flair for the dramatics,” Timberman said. “I realized I had an affinity and talent for theater. It was really neat getting to know everyone and being introduced to theater.”
Almost all of Timberman’s friends also participate in theater classes, so the elective holds a large portion of his social life. The frequent rehearsals keep him entertained and focused.
“It’s full with such crazy, diverse people,” Timberman said. “They all think and do things in different ways. They’re all creative, which helps me since I suffer from a lack of creativity.”
He plans on following through with theater into college, and getting a job in it, preferably as an actor.
“He is a really nice guy who always tries his hardest in everything he does,” senior Christian Boulter said. “He doesn’t give up until the job is done. He tries harder than anyone I know, both onstage and off. Tony has a huge heart, and I am indescribably proud that I can call him my friend.”
Timberman has acted in the recent productions of “Our Town,” “The Jungle Book,” and “Rough Magic,” as well as all of the other plays offered since his freshman year, which largely contributed to him lettering in 2013.
“It’s a huge honor for me to be surrounded by such great actors and actresses,” Timberman said. “And it’s amazing to look around and see that these talented people are all my friends.”
