The Broncos saw there bid for a state title blow away in the wind Thursday in Georgetown Texas in the state semi final. The Mesquite Poteet goal that broke the scoreless tie with 5:48 to go in the second half.
Mitchell Davis recorded the tally for Poteet when both he and a Legacy defender clashed for the ball, kicking it simultaneously, causing the ball to spin into the net unpredictably. Legacy strived to tie the game, nailing the cross bar with under three minutes remaining dominating nearly the entire second half in time of possession and attack time.
The story of the game however, was the wind. Legacy attacked into the wind in the first half, expecting to gain the wind advantage in the second, only to have the wind swirl and change directions forcing them to attack into the wind for the duration of the game.
Poteet was defeated in the 4A state title game by Hidalgo high school 2-0 Saturday. Bryan Zahner, Isaac Pile, and EJ Cifuentes earned all tournament team honors.
