The varsity volleyball team begins their Bi-District playoffs tonight taking on Fort Worth Northside . The Broncos are district champions with a 13-1 record. Their only loss came to Seguin, who they played later on in the district season 3-0.
“It’s a huge accomplishment. These girls have worked very hard and have set a goal this year to repeat as district champions from last year,” Head Coach Jennifer Chandler said.
The Broncos played an exhibition playoff match against North Crowley on Oct. 30. Chandler said it was to keep the same routine and for them to play more experienced opponents before the beginning of the playoffs. The Broncos won the game 3-0. With that game done, Legacy looks to perform well tonight.
“At this point we have to prepare by doing team oriented things and work to adjust.” She said, “We have to be able to execute game plans, which will be different with every match, every round, and every new person we play.”
The Broncos have ten seniors on this year’s team. Outside Hitter, Leslie Jackson is one of the 10 and is the school’s all time kills leader with over 1,000. Others include Rebekah Dorsey and Sarah Gosnell who have division I and II volleyball commitments next fall.
“They have come in here and have set the bar. I think they’ve been a huge factor by not only setting the tradition but maintaining it amongst the younger athletes,” Coach Chandler said.
Legacy went three rounds last year in Bi-District play. This year, players and coaches plan on making it even further.
“We’re looking to win tonight because we won our first Bi-district game the past two years, but we can’t go into it big headed,” Jackson said.
“I think the sky’s the limit. We have a tremendous amount of talent and it’s going to if we choose to show up on that particular day,” Coach Chandler said.
The Broncos came one step closer beating Fort Worth Northside in 3 games. Their next game will be on Nov. 6th against either Baswell or Denton Guyer.
