Basketball season has started this year and the men’s teams are already into district play. Varsity and JV have started their seasons preparing for the competition they will face in district.
Men’s Varsity Basketball holds a record of 13-6 and placed third in the Spring Creek Classic, a tournament hosted by the Mansfield high schools after losing in overtime to Mansfield.
“We will definitely win district, no doubt about it,” point guard Brandon Potter said.
Potter believes that the team will advance to the playoffs this year because of their past performance. He is confident the team will have the capability to face any challenge “as long as teams don’t have more than one big man.”
“We will be at our peak if we make it to the playoffs,” Potter said. “I’m looking forward to where this season takes us.”
He has confidence in the team not only because of their skill but the chemistry all the players have with each other. Discussing a practical joke where the cap was loosened on a water bottle and spilled all over another teammate. The practical joke received laughs, but Potter said, “[The joke] was funny, but we still had to run.”
Potter is still confident that this hardworking mentality will take them to the playoffs. As of now they are undefeated in district.
“The team chemistry is great this year,” Potter said “we know when we’re joking, and it should take us far.”
Men’s JV Basketball holds a record of 11-6 and received the consolation prize in the Summit Thanksgiving Classic held at Summit high school.
“I bet we will win over 20 games [this season],” point guard Brandon Grey said.
Determined to have a good season, Grey is ready to see his team win games. Grey states that the team this year has improved from where they were last year.
“I feel like [if we win district] we were able to work together as a team to do something that doesn’t happen very often,” Grey said.
