Men’s varsity basketball is now half way through district play and boasts now boasts the best record in the district at 7-1. The team has worked together in order to get this far; from co-captain Brandon Potter’s, attitude they do not plan on stopping.
“We are just going to run the table through the rest of district,” Potter said.
Legacy would have a perfect record in district play, but when they played Timberview they added a single loss to the board. Regulation ended in a tie, taking the game into overtime. During overtime it was a back and forth of Legacy taking the lead and then Timberview taking it back, and the game was not decided until the final seconds. Legacy shot a free throw and tied the game 48-48 and Potter felt it “would head into a second overtime.” This is not how the game ended, Timberview brought the ball down and was able to score putting them up by two.
“There wasn’t really any fault, it was good defense and good offense from both teams,” Potter said.
The game was not over yet. A timeout was called by Legacy with 1.1 seconds remaining. The team set up a play in an attempt to get themselves free throws, but in the end it did not work out. The ball was inbounded and deflected by a Timberview player and the clock expired.
“I was sad that the refs didn’t call it the way I felt they should have, but that’s just the way it goes sometimes,” Potter said.
The team has moved past this and ended beat Stephenville 53-35. Varsity’s next home game is against Everman in the Varsity Gym on February 2. They will face Timberview again as their final game at home on February 16 and Potter feels fans will enjoy the game.
“If you’re going to come to one game come to the Timberview game, things will go down,” Potter said.
