Co-captain Brandon Potter and the varsity basketball team are among the top schools in the state for 4A basketball. After making a run three rounds into the playoffs last year Potter has a confident outlook for the team this year.
“I think this year we will go four rounds deep and make it to the state tournament but after that we might run into some trouble,” Potter said.
The Broncos finished 13-1 in district this season and placedfirst in district 8-4A. They only had one loss to their name, which was against district rival Timberview. This game was lost by two points in the final moments of overtime. After playing their final game against Timberview the team almost had a perfect record.
“We felt relief [after beating Timberview],” Potter said. “We just came out and knew what we had to do after that it was just relief.”
Practice since the win is focusing on the fine tuning and honing skills to take their skill to the next level. The team’s chemistry is what Potter believes has propelled them to success. A majority of the seniors have been together for three years.
“We’ve had great [team] chemistry just through association with each other over the years,” Potter said.
Their base in basketball fundamentals and team chemistry will help Varsity basketball achieve their goal of winning a state title. Potter receives recognition from associate principals, teachers, and even other peers. He wants to leave a legacy that will live on for years to come.
“We’re still functioning as a good team, even if we are sometimes on different pages, we still function as a team,” Potter said.
